Myrl Messer 1928 – 2015 Long time Glasgow resident, Myrl Messer passed away October 24 at Golden Living Center. He was 87 years of age. Myrl William Messer was born February 5, 1928 in Chariton County to William and Lucy (Monnig) Messer. He attended Glasgow Public Schools. Myrl served in the United States Navy. He married Evelyn Robertson August 9, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Glasgow. Myrl worked for the City of Glasgow for 30 years retiring as Superintendent of Utilities. He was Mayor of Glasgow for several years. In later years he and Evelyn enjoyed going on bus tours, collecting antiques and visiting with family and friends. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Evelyn of Glasgow, two sons, Gerald (Valerie) Messer of Glasgow and Ron (Sandy) Messer of Osage Beach, MO, a sister, Martha (Kyle) Worley of Minneapolis, MN, six grandchildren, Amanda (Carl) Meyer, Matthew Wilkerson, Marcia Messer, Travis Messer, Amy Dampier and Phillip Perry, six great grandchildren, Christina and Casey Aholt, Samuel Wilkerson, Kiley, Emma and Gunner Dampier and one Aunt, Mary Frances Messer. A funeral mass will be 11 AM, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church with Father Alex Gabriel officiating. Family will receive friends 5 to 6:30 PM, Tuesday, October 27 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial with military honors will be in Washington Cemetery following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School or Church in care of the funeral home.
