Clarence Dodson 1939 - 2016 Clarence Eugene Dodson (Gene) peacefully left this Earth on Saturday, January 30, 2016, surrounded by loved ones in the home he lovingly built. Gene was a talented craftsman, constructing not only a home, but many other buildings on the property he shared with his wife, Devena, and son Derrick. When he wasn't building, Gene was working as a truck driver, auto and diesel truck mechanic, and working on farm equipment. He was always willing to help anyone in need, ending every phone conversation with, "Let me know if you need anything," even up to his dying day. Gene was always up for a new project and sharing a good story. Born on September 2, 1939 to Clarence Lee and Ethel B. (Lusby) Dodson in Fayette, Missouri, Gene spent much of his childhood on a farm. At age 18, he married his first wife, Karen, and of this union four children were born. Later he married Nancy Lee and they had one child together. In 1970, Gene married Devena and together they raised two children and moved their family to various locations including Fayette, Monmouth, Illinois, and finally settled in Harrisburg, Missouri, where Gene built their home in 1984. When Gene wasn't building things, he could be found riding motorcycles, working on hot rod cars, and talking with friends on the CB radio. Of all of his accomplishments, Gene was most proud of his children. Gene leaves behind seven children: Sherry (Gary) Williams, Edward Dodson, Vonciel (Jeff) Beiswinger, Lynette (Don) Baker, Clarence (Lori) Dodson Jr., Dawn (Eric) Heese, and Derrick (Jamie) Dodson. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. For those who knew him and loved him, Gene was one of a kind. He will truly be missed. Visitation for Mr. Dodson will be 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3 with Rev. John Gillman officiating. Both will take place at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, Missouri. Burial will be held immediately following the funeral at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette. Memorial contributions are suggested to Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
