Kitty Greiner 1920 – 2016 Katherine E.”Kitty” Greiner, a well-known former resident of Fayette, passed away at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, the same day as her late husband’s birthday. She was 95 years of age. Katherine E. Greiner was born in New York, NY on June 21, 1920, the daughter of Lewis and Florence (Ernst) Kaufman. She grew up and graduated from high school in Harlem. Following high school, she was educated at Iowa State University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in creative cooking in 1942. On June 11, 1942, Katherine Kauffman was united in marriage to Leslie M.”Jake” Greiner in San Diego, CA. Mr. Greiner preceded her in death March 5, 2011. Together they enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage. The couple brought their family to Howard County in 1952 when Mr. Greiner accepted the position of Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Fayette High School. Mrs. Greiner was employed as a dietitian and teacher in Kirksville and was a member of the staff of Keller Memorial Hospital in Fayette for many years. She was also teacher’s aide and librarian at Daly Elementary School. The Greiners were active members of the Fayette community. They were actively involved in the life of the Fayette First Christian Church. Among her many other activities, Mrs. Greiner was the first president of the Keller Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the LTS and Bridge Club. In her spare time, Kitty loved to bake, sew and be outdoors. Swimming, snow skiing, and gardening were just a few of the activities Kitty enjoyed. Mrs. Greiner is survived by two sons; Frank (Jodi) Greiner of Atlantic, Iowa and JR Leslie (Betty) Greiner of Greenwood, MO; two daughters, Janet (Kenneth) Davis of Independence and Terry Bentley of Fayette; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Greiner and a brother, Lewis Kaufman. Funeral services for Katherine Greiner will be held at 11 AM, on Wednesday, March 23rd at the Fayette First Christian Church with Rev. Paula Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
