Ila Shiflett 1931 – 2016 Rural Fayette resident, Ila Shiflett passed away March 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Glasgow. She was 85 years of age. Ila Mae Shiflett was born February 4, 1931 in Hutchinson, KS to Seth and Peggy (Kelsey) Hendershot. She married Volney Carlson in March of 1947 and he preceded her in death September of 1954. She married O.G. “Shorty” Shiflett April 10, 1963 and he preceded her in death November 8, 2014. Ila had worked in the local factories and had also worked hanging wallpaper and cleaning homes. Ila often made trips to the nursing homes in Fayette and Glasgow to visit the residents. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, dancing and going to the Missouri State Fair. Ila loved visiting with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church. Ila is survived by two daughters, Linda (Vaughn) Cooper of Glasgow and Monna (Ed) Schuster of Blackwater, three grandchildren, Scott (Lorinda) Cooper, Richard (Amanda) Cooper and Tanya (Eric) Monnig all of Glasgow, five great grandchildren, Tucker, Kason, Lucas, Karlie and Tim. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Carlson, a daughter, Donna Kateman, three brothers, one sister and a great granddaughter, Elyse Renee. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Sunday, March 20th, 2016 at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Pastor Andrew Etzler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery in Stronghurst, IL. Memorials are suggested to Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church or Walnut Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
