Tom Bentley 1943 – 2016 Thomas (Puss) William Bentley, age 72 of Glasgow, MO passed away on Sunday, May 29th at 5:56 p.m. in his boyhood home, which has been in his family for generations. In the week surrounding his death, after about a 6 month battle with prostate cancer, he was able to share his last moments with his daughters, family, close friends, and his dutiful hospice nurse. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday June 2nd, 2016 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, MO with Pastor Jeremy Broach officiating. The visitation will be at 2 p.m. with the funeral following at 3 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held at Forest Green Cemetary in Forest Green, MO at approximately 4 p.m. A dinner will be held at 5 p.m. at the east shelter house at Stump Island Park in Glasgow, MO (a favorite hang-out of Tom’s). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Family’s Choice, in care of Friemonth-Freese funeral home Tom was born August 5, 1943 in Fayette, MO to Henry Clay and Hazel (Estill) Bentley. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Clay Bentley. Tom attended Glasgow High School and served in the Missouri Army National Guard. He ran a bulldozer for Carmack Farms, operated a dredge at Capital Sand Company and was a plasma cutter at Standard Havens. Tom loved to garden, hike, kayak and enjoyed anything that nature had to offer. Tom was a member of the NRA, and was a strong supporter of gun rights. He also enjoyed target shooting with friends. He was an avid photographer and loved taking pictures of nature, family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, listening to music, and being on his family farm with his dog Charlie. He was a one of a kind individual with compassion to help others in need. Tom also had a big heart for those who were close to him. Survivors include his oldest daughter Karla Kaye (Bentley) Gebhardt and her husband Russell Gebhardt of Kirksville, MO and their eight children: Elisha & Tony Fisher and great granddaughter Alainna Fisher, Levi, Judah and Daniel Gibson of Springfield MO, Amos, Ezra, Silas, Naomi, and Grace. Additionally he is survived by his youngest daughter Barbara Ann (Bentley) Monnig and husband Eric Monnig of Glasgow, MO and their three children: Kyler, Jaden & Kelten. Tom also helped raise Michael Sumerlin of Fayette, MO, Travis Forbes of Columbia, MO, Shawn Johnson of Fayette, MO, and Sherri (Johnson) Sturguess of Brookfield, MO. His life-long companion was Ronnie (Johnson) Hines of Fayette, MO. He had a previous marriage to Sandy (Simpson) Smith, who was the mother of his two daughters.
