Carl F. Miller, age 82, of Franklin, MO passed away at Boone County Hospital surrounded by family, on June 30, 2016 due to heart complications. Visitation is to take place at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, MO on Tuesday, July 5 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Boonesboro Christian Church on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Briggs and Randy Robb presiding. Interment will follow at the Boonesboro Cemetery. Pallbearers attending are Tom Miller, Jon Miller, Rick Miller, Richard Ivy, Rodney Webster and Lynn Wells, with honorary pallbearers being Dennis Lenz, Mike Hanlon, Greg Greenwell and Gene Webster. Carl was born on the family homeplace on May 1, 1934 to Bertha Mae (Morris) and John Phillip Miller of Franklin, MO. He attended Boonesboro School through the tenth grade, when he suspended his education to work the family farm and learn the carpentry trade from his father; together they built many houses and barns in the Boonsboro area. A petite and quiet neighborhood girl caught his eye and after wooing her with boxes of chocolates and silver dollars won at the local fair, Carl married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Woods on July 2, 1958. Carl followed his father into the concrete trade and joined Laborers Local 955 in 1964. Carl was proud of his 50 years in the union and enjoyed reminiscing about his contributions to structures throughout central Missouri, including helping to build Boone Hospital and Jesse Hall and assisting with the repairs to the Howard County pipeline after the devastating Flood of 1993. In later life Carl discovered his love of travel. He flew, saw the ocean and traveled internationally to Canada, all for the first time in 2008, completed the Kentucky Bourbon Trail to celebrate his 75th birthday and realized his dream of visiting the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Carl was most content to spend time at home, surrounded by family and close friends. He preferred to spend his days eating biscuits & gravy and bacon at 87 Diner in Boonville, catching fish at a neighbor’s pond and listening to his country music favorites George Jones and Ray Price. Carl is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers, an infant son and several nieces and nephews. Carl is survived by three daughters: Jean Shields (Dennis Lenz) of Boonville, Tammy Hanlon (Mike) of Franklin, Melissa Miller (Greg Greenwell) of St. Louis; seven grandchildren: Wesley Freese of Boonville, Anna Miller of St. Louis, Brandi Hill (Jamie) of Glasgow, Jay Clatworthy (Sara) of San Angelo, TX, Whitney Boggs of Franklin, Whitney Greenwell of Columbia, and Gareth Greenwell of St. Louis; and 10 great-grandchildren: Zane, James, Robbie, Jacen, Ryder, Karsen, Hadleigh, Ellie, Bennett and Thomas. Memorial donations are suggested to the Boonesboro Christian Church
