Gloria Maupin 1931 – 2017 Long time Howard County resident, Gloria Maupin passed away March 15, 2017 at Glasgow Gardens. She was 85 years of age. Gloria Jean Maupin was born November 14, 1931 in Detroit, MI to Leslie and Betty (Andersen) Budd. She was a graduate of Troy High School in Detroit. After high school, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp where she met her future husband and they both worked as Dental Assistants. Gloria married William Marion Maupin August 30, 1952 at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. He preceded her in death April 6, 2015. Gloria had worked over thirty years at Colonial Manor Nursing Home now named Glasgow Gardens. She spent countless hours taking care of the residents and planning activities for them. She also had a passion for politics, as she served on the Chariton Township Democrat Committee for many years. Gloria enjoyed the Ladies Auxiliary, Study Club and Legion Post 211. She was a devoted member of the Richland Christian Church south of Glasgow. Gloria was always willing to donate her time to the Glasgow community and helping others. She will truly be missed by all that knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Steve) Strodtman and Paula (Myrl) Fuemmeler all of Glasgow, five grandchildren, Derek and Trenton Strodtman, Jacob Miller, Michael and Stacy Fuemmeler, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kasie. A memorial service for Gloria Maupin will be 11 AM, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Revs. Thomas Myers and Lewis Odneal officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Pleasant Green Cemetery, south of Glasgow. Memorials are suggested to the Richland Christian Church or the Central Missouri Honor Flight Program.
