Mary Frances Wheeler 1920 - 2018 Fayette resident Mary Frances Wheeler, passed away peacefully at Glasgow Gardens in Glasgow in March 21, 2018. She was 97 years of age. The daughter of James and Rachel Denny Simpson, Mary Frances Wheeler was born in Fayette on September 11, 1920. She was a graduate of Fayette High School and attended Central College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in Roanoke, MO and in rural schools near Fayette. She was later employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for a number of years. On May 2, 1942, Mary Frances Simpson was united in marriage to Hobart William Wheeler in Fayette. The couple enjoyed 53 years together, first living at Fort Carson, Colorado where Mr. Wheeler was stationed with the U. S. Army and later in Colorado Springs at the base of Pike’s Peak where they made their home from 1947 to 1983. They then returned to Fayette, spending the remainder of their lives in Howard County. Mr. Wheeler preceded her in death on March 21, 1996. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. She is survived by her two sons; John and his wife Anne Wheeler of Helena, MT and James and his wife Vicki Wheeler of Amarillo, TX. and her daughter, Rosemary and her husband Bob Taylor, of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Susan, Megan, Jason and Shelu Wheeler and James, John, David, and Sam Taylor. Eight great-grandchildren also survive. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. John Boone Simpson, and her sister Jamie Brady. A graveside funeral service for Mary Frances Wheeler will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 28, at Fayette City Cemetery with Pastor Jamie Page officiating.
