Former Armstrong resident, Dean Riggle passed away April 18, 2018 at Glasgow Gardens in Glasgow, MO. She was 88 years of age. Dean Burch Riggle was born October 25, 1929 in Fayette, MO, the daughter of Edward E. and Grace B. (Kirby) Solomon. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1947. Dean was a skilled secretary, working as a church secretary, and then was employed by Central Methodist College for many years. (She reluctantly mastered the art of Microsoft Word, after decades of typing on a typewriter!) During her time living out in the country on her family's farm near Armstrong, she gardened in the garden plot her parents had cultivated. She raised chickens, and especially loved obtaining various species of chickens each spring. She was known in Fayette for bringing a colorful selection of fresh eggs (from her unusual chickens) into town to sell. When she moved to Glasgow Gardens, she brought her collection of ceramic chickens with her. At Glasgow Gardens, she was an enthusiastic gardener, planting her favorite flowers in the community garden. Dean was an accomplished musician, especially on the piano. Throughout her life she played the piano in church. At Glasgow Gardens, she played the piano for church services there. In her youth, Dean along with her brother and sister (the Solomon Trio) sang on many occasions throughout Howard and surrounding counties. She was a Faithful and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Fayette. Survivors include three daughters, Kathy (Donald) Cook of Grand Rapids, MI; Karen (Robert) Solomon Dunn of Peoria, IL, and Karla (Dan) Elam Hollenbach of Oak Ridge, TN; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. One brother, Clell (Marilyn) Solomon of Armstrong, MO; several nephews, among them, Brad Solomon and Nathan Riggle; several nieces, among them, Lisa Shoemaker and Lana Phillips; and 14 great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Ann Welcelean. Funeral services honoring Dean’s life will be 11 AM, Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Fayette First Baptist Church, with Pastor James Briggs officiating.
