Longtime Fayette resident Lucille Mounter passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Glasgow Gardens. She had just celebrated her 104th birthday. The daughter of Harley E. and Lula Bell Howell Funk, Bessie Lucille Mounter was born in rural Howard County on July3, 1916. She was educated at Gold Dust School and at Glasgow High School. She came to Fayette during her Junior Year, attending High School classes during the day and Business School, where she took typing and shorthand, in the evening. She left school in her last year to take a secretarial job in Jefferson City. Though she never officially finished High School, her clerical ability carried her through a career of 28 years of Civil Service. She worked in the Treasury Procurement office and was County Office Clerk for Farmer’s Home Administration for 23 years. After retirement in 1979, she worked during tax season in the tax preparation office in Fayette owned by John Monroe. Lucille met Earl S. Mounter at a dance at Wingfield’s Lake during her early time in Fayette. They were married in Little Rock, AK on February 18, 1939, and enjoyed 59 years together until his death on September 19, 1998. Earl and his brother, Trev, first hauled livestock and then farmed until the mid 1970’s. He and Lucille built their home on their farm west of Fayette in 1953 and made their residence there until 1978 when they moved to Fayette just north of the Golf Course. Lucille took lessons and soon was enjoying golf with four friends every Monday morning. She also enjoyed croquet games on her front lawn traveling, dancing and, of course, time with family and friends. She was a member of the Fayette First Baptist Church and served as a member of the Walnut Ridge Cemetery Board for 20 years. Lucille is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph T. Mounter, and by two brothers; Roy and Joe Funk. Funeral services honoring the life of Lucille Mounter will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2020, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks and Social Distancing are required. Burial will follow the service at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Fayette First Baptist Church and may be directed to the care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service; 174 Hwy 5 & 240 North; Fayette, MO 65248.
