Lifelong Glasgow resident, Herb Sellmeyer, 95, passed away July 18, 2021 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO. Herbert Mark Sellmeyer was born in Glasgow on October 30, 1925, a son to the late Harry G. and Julia (Ripperger) Sellmeyer. Herb enlisted with the U.S. Merchant Marines and served during WWII. He re-enlisted with the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Herb was honorably discharged on August 24, 1956. On September 2, 1950, Herb married the love of his life, Sheila Palms, at St. Joseph Church in Salisbury, MO. Together they’ve enjoyed nearly 71 years of marriage. Herb was a lifetime farmer who also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Glasgow American Legion. He was also an active and devout member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Sellmeyer, of the home; three children, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Sellmeyer of McAlester, OK, Gregory (Tammy) Sellmeyer of Fulton, MO and Kristin (Greg) Speiser of Glasgow, MO; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Sellmeyer of O’Fallon, MO; eight grandchildren, Stephen Sellmeyer, Jennifer Unger, Tyler Sellmeyer, Andrea Lynch, Lucas Sellmeyer, Megan Buscher, Austin Speiser and Allissa Spieser; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by a son, Mark Sellmeyer, two brothers, Francis and Thomas Sellmeyer, and two sisters, Jan Garner and Stella Monnig. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. Mary Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow the funeral at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary Church or the Glasgow Senior Center.
