Donald Himmelberg 1946 - 2014 Well known Howard County resident Donald August Himmelberg died Friday, October 10, 2014, at Boone Hospital in Columbia. He was 68 years of age. Born in Boonville on April 15, 1946, Donald Himmelberg was the son of Clarence Edward and Marcella Armella Grotewiel Himmelberg. He grew up near Glasgow and attended St. Mary’s School and Glasgow High School, from which he graduated with the class of 1964. On September 7, 1968, he married Sharon Johnmeyer in Glasgow. Donald served his country as a member of the Missouri National Guard and worked for Glasgow Co-op and at various places in an around Glasgow as a young man. He later was employed by Julius Johnmeyer at Johnmeyer Construction Company. He became owner of that contracting firm in 1977 until he retired from the phone cable business in 1995 and continued to work as a local contractor. Donald was well known for his ingenious and innovative talents. Throughout his life, Donald was fun loving and took pride in both work and play. He spent numerous hours outside with his family and friends enjoying all that nature had to offer. Donald is survived by two daughters; Sherri Sullivan and Amy Frey of Columbia and one son, Andrew (Crystal) Himmelberg of Fayette as well as by the mother of his children, Sharon Himmelberg of Higbee. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Isabella, Elijah, and Jonah Sullivan Natalie Frey, and Cooper and Emma Himmelberg and his life partner, Judy Strodtman of Fayette. Other survivors include two brothers; Delbert Himmelberg of Fayette and Dale (Melanie) Himmelberg of Glasgow and two sisters; Diane (Adolph) Barringhaus and Darlene (Jim) Dougherty of Rennick. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Paul Donald Himmelberg, and a brother, David Himmelberg. Funeral services for Donald Himmelberg will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 16, at Friemonth-Freese Chapel in Fayette with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery with Fred Craig, Ben Himmelberg, David Himmelberg, Doug Strodtman, Jared Wies, and Andrew Diehls serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Wednesday evening October 15 at the funeral home.
