Mildred Syferd Obituary

Mildred Beatrice “Millie” Syferd, age 96, of Fayette, MO, formerly of Macon, MO, passed away February 25, 2026, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born April 4, 1929, on the farm in Clark City, MO, daughter of Willis Oscar Mooney and Martha Beatrice Eagon.  She began first grade at 4 years old in a country schoolhouse and graduated from high school in Kahoka, MO.

In 1954, she married Scott Syferd, and they lived in Kahoka, MO where he managed the Mackie & Williams Grocery Store.  The next year they moved to Macon, MO where Scott managed the new Mackie & Williams Grocery Store.  They were married for 57 years.

Millie and Scottie built their home in Macon in 1959 and lived there for 52 years. Before moving to Fayette, Millie lived eight years in Saint Cloud, FL with her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Doggett.

Millie and Scottie were active members of the First Christian Church in Macon, and up to her last day, she loved hearing the Word of God, singing hymns and praying for her family.

She loved her family, especially celebrating holidays and birthdays. She enjoyed attending activities involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved cooking for her family and made sure she had everyone’s favorite foods.  She was a bread baker and had upstairs and basement ovens.  Making Apple Butter was one of her specialties, and a hobby was collecting cookbooks with new recipes. Flower gardening was also a hobby with Lily of the Valley and Lilacs being her favorites.  Another hobby was reading and she took great pleasure in keeping her bookcase filled with good books for the family.

Millie was gifted in homemaking, collected beautiful dishes, and had music flowing through the house. She played piano and sang in church as a teen and could play a fun Boogie Woogie and rollicking Chop Stix to the delight of her kids.  She was a dancer and taught her children and grandchildren how to dance.  She enjoyed the Box Step, Jitterbug, and Schottische!

Millie was a faithful fan of the St Louis Cardinals and NASCAR, having enjoyed Cardinal Spring Training games in Florida and attending several Daytona 500 races. Other favorite times included taking several vacations with Don and family plus additional trips with Debbie and family.  She loved the ocean and beach from the Pacific to the Atlantic plus the Rocky Mtns to the Gulf Coast.  A special experience was watching rocket launches from the beach and from the driveway of her home in Florida.

As a lifelong learner, she took adult education classes to learn to sew and hand quilt.  Her family has all received “quilted by hand” masterpieces as well as clothing and beautiful needlework.

She was preceded in death by her husband Scottie, grandson Timothy Syferd, stepson Roger Syferd, her parents, brother, sister, niece and nephews.

She is survived by her children Don (Linda) Syferd of Fayette, MO and Deborah (Stephen) Doggett of Saint Cloud, FL. Six Grandchildren Scott, Micki, Misti (Shannon), Julia (Vincent), Cara (Nick), Chip (Teresa), 13 Great grandchildren Alyx, Mady (Tyler), Ryenne,  Sophia, Laurens, André, Isaac, Theo, Ella, Greycen, Hargis, Reed, Jennifer, and one Great-great granddaughter, Cooper Kate plus nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Wilson and Triplett Funeral Home in Kohoka, MO at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
